Kia ora koutou

At the forefront for us all as a community this week is the sad passing of Marshall Thompson, our Head Groundskeeper. Marshall became a member of our property team at the start of 2015 when he joined the college as a maintenance officer.  He turned his hand to anything and put his furniture restoration and upcycling skills to good use. With his quiet and gentle natured approach he started to work more on the grounds and fields maintenance side and that's when he grew his knowledge of, and passion for that part of his property role.

When the opportunity arose in 2021 Marshall was keen to take on the Head Groundskeeper position.  He really wanted to take on the additional responsibility and he has done an outstanding job in this role.  His dedication and attention to detail with the fields and wickets was noticed and appreciated, as was his willingness to go the extra mile with students in mind.  He also did some great behind the scenes work to plan and cost the complex annual cycle of preparing and maintaining our fields and wickets - and his freehand designs for landscaping and planting about the college are a delight.

We are certainly going to miss Marshall around the place - a genuine, friendly, humble man. Our deepest sympathies go to Marshall’s family at this time.

Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival

Last weekend we proudly hosted the festival this year and we loved seeing all the excitement on the day and the camaraderie between the three schools involved.

Congratulations to Fletcher for winning the Tim Watson Cup for Outstanding Individual Performance for portraying the role of Adonis in 'Venus and Adonis'.  'Venus and Adonis' was also selected for Nationals and we wish all involved the best of luck for performing at the St James over King's Birthday weekend.

Phones away for the day

A reminder that “Phones away for the day” will start after Easter, with the final two weeks of term being the “adjustment phase” before the policy is fully implemented from the start of Term 2.
