Kia ora koutou katoa, Here in Auckland, we have been having lovely weather as autumn slowly turns into winter and temperatures drop. With the pressures of term two, it is no doubt a busy start to the term for everyone. I gave my first presentation at the ACATE PLD day last week and am looking forward to giving more. There has been sufficient demand for the New Careers Advisors Induction workshops this term, so I will proceed with the Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch events. I have included the dates and registration forms for each in this newsletter, so please make sure you sign up if you would like to attend. Please let me know if you have any further questions and I will send further information to those registered in due course. If you have not already seen it, please check your inbox for an email from Craig Dyason, CATE President, in which he has asked for feedback on CATE fees for 2025. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard. Enjoy the rest of the week. Ngā mihi, Tara Heta Kaiārahi CATE NZ kaiarahi@catenz.org |

YEA in consultation with key stakeholders has drafted an Open Letter to the Coalition Government and are seeking your signature. In the Open Letter, they ask the Coalition Government to support the creation of a working group of community, education, industry, and Local Government representatives to align with transition teams within ministries and promote the implementation of best practices for employability skill training, driver licensing, and professional pathway guidance in secondary schools across the county. Young people should leave school with work-related skills and an appropriate pathway plan to give them the confidence and ability to find and sustain employment. They argue that our school system needs to effectively connect education with the world of work to engage students with relevant learnings. They ask for employability training to be delivered to all high school students and endorse the Careers and Transitions Education Association of NZ’s recommendations to the government, as well as the Driving Change Network’s mission to incorporate and fund driver training into all secondary schools through partnerships with community driver licensing providers. You can read the full Open Letter here and click on the link to add your signature. |
