Shoe Clinics Millers Farm Handicap
45 runners participated in this years Miller Killer
9 volunteers assisted in the set up and running of the event
The sun shone bright on Saturday. Bright enough that everyone was able to gaze, down, down, down the hill and then off into the Hokonui Hills. I am sure everyone was a little apprehensive before heading out on the 7km jaunt around the Miller Farm. Heading out into the green fields knowing that all that fun downhill was going to lead to the hard grind back up to the finish line was a little nerve racking.
It was great to see so many junior runners take on the 3.5km loop. The committee is well impressed with the grit and determination you all showed, and thank you for dragging your parents along as well. We had numerous families taking part on Saturday, The Berkers, Le Bretons, Jacksons, Iversons, Halls, Griffths, Hortons and McDonalds.
Welcome all our new runners. Hopefully this tough event did not scare you off , and welcome back Buddy Small. It was great to see you in the yellow singlet again.
This event affectionately known as the Miller Killer is the highlight of the Harriers season. It is a tough run, but the warmth and hospitality of the Miller Family is the prize for everyone who crosses the finish line. Hannah Miller is one of Southland's most successful runners. In 2022 she placed first nationally across 3 distances, the 10,000M, half-marathon and marathon, and competed internationally for many years.
There was a lot of talk about Whakapapa, legacy and giving back on Saturday. The Miller Killer is a good reminder to all of us of this. The Millers open their farm every year as a thank you to the Southland Harriers, and on Saturday we welcomed Briana Miller to our finish line, thank Briana for putting up your hand. See you at our committee meeting on Thursday!!
