Centre Coordinator Greetings, Selwyn Netball Community! We are excited to announce that we have entered Week 3 of Round 2, and the competition has been nothing short of spectacular! Your commitment and sportsmanship have ensured the smooth running of our games. Thank you to all members, players, coaches, and supporters for your dedication and enthusiasm. A massive thank you to our umpires, who have been astounding this season. Your commitment to helping games proceed smoothly has been amazing. It’s fantastic to see you all gaining further skills, and our Game Official Coordinator is constantly impressed with your enthusiasm. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we deeply appreciate your dedication to the sport. Our Matariki Celebration on the 29th of June was a heartwarming success. The outpouring of generosity from our netball community was truly overwhelming. The sheer amount of food donated was incredible, and the local food bank was beyond grateful for our contribution. Your donations will make a significant difference to families in the Selwyn area, and we are immensely proud of our community's spirit of giving. Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and we are always in awe of their unwavering support. We encourage everyone to recognize these unsung heroes by submitting a volunteer for recognition through our website on the CERI webpage. Let’s show our appreciation for their hard work and dedication. We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Year 7/8 Player Development Program (PDP) during the holidays. With 80 registrants, this program promises to be an exciting opportunity for young players to hone their skills, learn from experienced coaches, and make new friends. We look forward to seeing our young athletes grow and excel in this enriching environment. A special shout-out to our U18A team, who will be heading to nationals on the 15th of July. You have the support of the entire Selwyn Netball community behind you, and we are incredibly proud to have you represent our centre. Play with passion, give it your all, and know that we are cheering for you every step of the way. Good luck! Mark your calendars for the Year 1-6 Festival Day on the 18th of August! We are looking forward to seeing as many of our futureFERNS as possible. Team registrations are now open, and we will have sponsors in attendance and spot prizes on the day. Dress up, have fun, and let’s celebrate the joy of netball together! As always, stay warm and I look forward to seeing you out there! Centre Coordinator - Trinity Lauren |
Game Officials I am constantly amazed at the umpire community we have at Selwyn Netball Centre. Our team of umpires are always willing to step in and help when we have a shortage of umpires or last minute injury and illness and without this team attitude my job would be so much harder. Our Umpire Coaching Team of volunteers who give so much of their time and knowledge to develop our umpires have been hard at work and we are now starting to see some of our Main Draw umpires gaining awards. We have some new Bench Officials who have joined our team, we would like to extend a warm welcome to you and trust you find officiating as rewarding as we do. Two of our dedicated umpires have successfully achieved their New Zealand Theory, Congratulations to Rebecca Davis- Templeton and Luisa Lightfoot- Lincoln Tournaments are always exciting for players, coaches and umpires alike and with Field Days Tournament upon us I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all our umpires who are participating. Finally, we would like to celebrate with Luisa Lightfoot and congratulate her on being selected to represent Mainland as an umpire at the NNZ U18 National Championships. The mahi she has put into this achievement has paid off and we are so proud of her. Coordinator - Vanessa-Amy Greenwood |

Representative Our U16A and U18A teams triumphed at Blenheim's TOTS tournament, sweeping every game and clinching the top spots in their respective categories. Their time in Blenheim was thoroughly enjoyable and successful. Our centre had an impressive tournament across all age groups, showcasing talent and determination. The senior team secured the 2nd spot in their pool, demonstrating their competitive edge. The U18A team finished at the top of their division, reflecting their exceptional skill and teamwork. The U18 Development team held strong, achieving a commendable 5th place. Similarly, our U16A team dominated their division, also finishing at the top. The U16B team fought hard and secured 6th place, while our U16 Development teams showed promising progress by finishing 4th and 5th. This collective effort highlights the depth and potential of our centre's future stars. Coordinator - Shannon Hunt |

Year 1-4 futureFERNs The Year 1-4 Future Ferns programme is halfway through the season already! Every week, our young players gather on the courts, full of energy and excitement. They learn the fundamental skills of the game while building teamwork and confidence. Friendly volunteer coaches from our community guide them with patience and encouragement. Parents cheer proudly from the sidelines, and everyone enjoys seeing the children grow in skill and sportsmanship. For our Year 1 to Year 4 players, netball isn't just a game—it's a chance to laugh, learn, and be part of something special. As the program continues to grow, we're excited to see more smiles and friendships blossom on and off the court. |

Cadbury Volunteer of the Month Sarah Hill is an Admin Queen at Representative Trials, she is always the first person to put her hand up and offer her help and nothing is ever an issue. She works double-time in the background to ensure that trials run smoothly, a real unsung hero and the Rep Coordinator could not achieve what she does without Sarah. She has helped the Rep Coordinator massively in the last year as Shan stepped into this new role and not only does she help Shan but she has taught Shan a lot along the way. She is the first person in the door on a Sunday morning, always with a smile on her face and a "Hi darling", definitely the person you want there when things aren't quite going to plan. A super deserving person for this award and I know a lot of people in the centre would agree. |

National Volunteer Week Volunteers are the backbone of our centre, providing essential support and dedication that enable us to carry out our mission effectively. We are profoundly grateful to have such a large and committed group of volunteers, whose selfless contributions make a significant difference in our community. Without their hard work and passion, we simply couldn't achieve our goals. This week has been a joyous celebration of their invaluable efforts, and we have cherished every moment of honoring them. Don't forget, you can still nominate a special volunteer for our CERI Award program to recognise their exceptional service! |

Matariki A huge thank you to all the clubs and teams who joined us in providing a donation of food for our Matariki Weekend. We are beyond blown away with how generous the SNC Community is! Rolleston Salvation Army food bank was extremely grateful to receive such a large donation and all of your donations will help the wider Selwyn community! Templeton Shout Out! From Josie Topp: Instead of asking our members to buy something or take something out of their pantries that the club would donate $250 on our members behalf and get as much as we could, and I was very surprised at just how much I was able to get! And since I am an animal lover I couldn't forget our furry family so added a few bags of cat/dog food also amongst the goods and a few other bits and pieces. Always happy to do our part and I am so glad that in some small way we can help those in our communities that are doing it tough out there. |

Our Saturday competition has next week off, and our Thursday competition will have a two-week break, along with our Y1-4 participants. Enjoy your break, everyone! Walking Netball Our first walking netball session kicked off this Wednesday with great success! The morning began with a fun ice breaker, helping everyone get to know each other and feel comfortable. We then moved into a series of skills and drills, allowing participants to practice and improve their netball techniques in a relaxed, supportive environment. The session concluded with an energetic game, bringing out plenty of laughs and smiles. The positive feedback has been overwhelming, and we're excited to continue this every Wednesday at 10am at the Selwyn Sports Centre.
