Race 6 Shoe Clinic Series- Wyndham Race Course

21 Runners Participated In This Event

3 Volunteers Assisted In The Set Up And Running Of The Event

It was a hardy bunch of runners who travelled to Wyndham on Saturday for our 6th race of 8 in the Shoe Clinic Series. Firstly a huge thank you to the Wyndam Race Course committee who entertained our crazy idea of running a few laps of their “horse” racing course. The variety of event locations this year has been excellent and I know that everyone who attended this Saturday, was challenged by what they perhaps though would be a few simple laps of the racecourse.

As we all sat together in the old grandstands looking out across the Young Quinn Raceway their were plenty of jokes about placing bets, and who had the best odds for a win. Even a few race horse names tossed around, before the event started, for different runners. What was even more entertaining was that despite being given the option of running 1-5 laps of the 1.5km course, a majority of the runners chose 5 laps.

Thank you Grant Baker who was our race director, starter, timer, place getter and result recorder!!

The rest of us took off, not knowing exactly who was chasing how many laps. One or two of our juniors even took off in gumboots. Then came the challenge of deciding were to place your foot. Despite looking like a straight forward run, everyone commented on the fact that it was a challenge to find the best route around the horse hoof imprints as we made our way around the track. The inside was clean of prints but a bit like running on sand, some hoof imprints were deeper then others, so don't step in those!! By the 5th lap you could start to see the runners shoe imprints on course and where most of us had decided was the path of least resistance.

The big winner of the day I think was Emma Smith who found herself a lucky horseshoe on her last lap. Congrats Emma and thanks for bringing a friend along!!

Thank you everyone who joined us, a lot of organization goes into all the events we hold and we almost never cancel!!

Spot Prize Winners: Junior-Flynn Douglas, Senior- Linda TeAu and Evan McIntosh
