Kia ora koutou

We’ve reached the end of another very busy term and I want to start by thanking all our students, staff, parents and caregivers for all your hard work and support over the last 10 weeks. I remember writing to you all when I was first appointed Principal earlier this year and I commented then that I believe Principalship is the best job in the world. The amazing success that I see each and every day from our students confirms that this is still very much the case! As we end the term and begin a well deserved break here are just a few highlights from the past couple of weeks:

  • A stunning “It’s Showtime” concert at Southwards Theatre last weekend featuring a wide range of hugely talented students and members of our community, all under the baton of our Head of Music, Merrick Stein. We have received a number of comments from audience members who attended, all of whom thoroughly enjoyed the show.
  • Our Mixed Voices Barbershop Chorus performed in the National Barbershop Finals this week and they placed second in their category. Well done to all for an amazing performance!
  • Congratulations also to our Year 12 Sports Leaders as well as our Year 11 PE students for organising and running a brilliant tabloid sports event this week for our local primary schools.
  • Well done to our Boys Basketball team for winning the Premier Grade final at the College Sport Wellington 3x3 Senior Slam, and some great results also for our second boys team who finished second in the Division 1 final and our girls who finished 3rd having narrowly missed out on a place in the final of their competition by 1 point.
  • Congratulations to Year 13 student Riya Parashar who was chosen as a top 10 finalist in the Katherine Mansfield Short Story Award. Riya’s story, “Untitled” received fabulous comments from this year’s judge and it was a pleasure to join Riya at the awards ceremony last night alongside her proud English teacher Ms Claire Oakley and her equally proud mum.
  • And finally, how could I finish my opening comments with anything other than celebrating our 2nd annual staff vs students end of term dance off. This was a fabulous celebration of dance but also the awesome sense of community and connection we enjoy here at PC. The staff were this year’s winners, taking it out 178 points to 173! Congratulations to all involved.

The great thing about all of the above is that you can check out our Paraparaumu College Facebook page and see photos and videos of almost all these events.

All the very best to everyone for the term holiday break and we look forward to seeing you all back at college on Monday 14 October.
