Kia ora parents and caregivers,

Thank you so much for registering children for junior rugby in 2025. Following our registration evenings last week, coaches got together this week to discuss the season ahead and place kids into teams. As always, we’ve done our best to keep the core of existing teams together, and for our kids new to rugby, to place them teams with friends or family.

If not already, you will soon hear from coaches about training times and plans for the year ahead.

Coaching Help

Our coaches are fantastic volunteers and put a lot of effort into our teams. They’re always up for a hand, so if you can help out a team you’re connected with, do speak to your team’s coach.

We’re also in need of coaches for a couple of teams, so if that interests you, please email littleblue@petonerugby.com 

Registration Tidy Ups

A few of you will have received emails in the last day or so with some minor tidy ups on registration details. If you tackle those this week, that would be great.

For those yet to pay subs, you should receive invoices from the club to your email. These can be paid in instalments if that helps. 

We know some kids couldn’t attend registration evenings to receive their training tee. We will look to host an evening in the week of 28 April for those still to pick up their tee.

Important Dates for the Season Ahead

  • Saturday 3 May: First round of junior rugby. The plan is for Year 3 teams to attend a rugby festival where further tackle training will be provided by the WRFU.
     
  • Old Timers Day is Saturday 10 May, featuring a very special Premier home game featuring a junior curtain raiser!
     
  • Petone Rugby Football Club’s 140t1h celebration, get your tickets here https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/344548
     
  • Rugby will play on the Kings Birthday weekend (Saturday 31 May) and Matariki weekend (Saturday 21 June).
     
  • No rugby on the last two weekends of the school holidays (Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 July).
     
  • Wednesday 30 July: Team photos at the Clubrooms.
     
  • Saturday 16 August: Last games for the season
