Welcome to The Village Viewpoint sponsored by Gavin and Cassie Murphy and the team at Gee and Hickton Ltd Funeral Directors, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, and Porirua.

Maidstone continues to be a bogey venue for our Prems, going down in the dying seconds. We scored a few scintillating tries including a Tom Carter classic, but discipline cost us, our top side couldn't adapt to referee Matt Thomas. The Prem Reserves continue their fine form and remain unbeaten through 4 rounds. The Ponies had the weekend off rugby but were put through their paces by Alex Telea early on Saturday morning, some very tired ladies after the green room workout! The Brotherhood went down narrowly to the MSP Internationals at Kilbirnie park. The colts were left twiddling their thumbs with no game again, well done to the Under 21 lads who have filtered into other teams and helped out!

It’ll be all happening at Evans Bay Park this weekend, with three of our teams facing The Red Machine.

This week’s matches start with the Ponies travelling into Evans Bay Park for a 11:30am kickoff to take on competition returnees MSP. MSP have made a great start to life back in the Premier Grade, with three wins from four matches so far and a points differential of +146. Our Ponies will be raring to continue their undefeated run after being defaulted to last week, so this game should be a cracker.

Despite last week’s narrow loss to the MSP Internationals, the Brotherhood are looking good in the early going. They travel to Porirua Park to face a Northern United side who put 100 points on the board in Round 3, so Brent has no doubt been putting the boys through their defensive paces at training this week.

Despite a few injuries to key players, the Prem Reserves had a great win last week against Upper Hutt. They will be looking to keep their unbeaten record intact when they face an MSP team fresh off a big victory over Norths. This game will start at 1pm, immediately following the Ponies’.

Our Prems will be looking to put last week’s last-minute loss in the rear view mirror. The boys will be looking to put a big shift for the full eighty minutes to ensure their early position in the top four is solidified when they face MSP at 2:45pm.

The poor old Colts must not know where they stand at the moment. They again are not playing this weekend. With numbers fading across the country, it is surely so important to get this grade ‘right’. It is clear that, in the early going at least, it has been a disaster for our young rugby players. The last game our Colts played was on April 19th which means that there will have been 21 days between this game and their next scheduled game, on May 10th.

Stanley and the New Zealand under 20's fought out a 29 all draw against the junior wallabies in the Republic last night. The Australian goal kicker hit a conversion on the stroke of full time to tie things up. A frustrating draw for the junior AB's but both sides put on a great spectacle.
