Cross-Country Relay-Andersons Park
17 Teams Consisting of 3-5 runners participated on Saturday
6 Volunteers assisted during the setup and running of the event.
Galloping Rabbites, Mega Masters, Suns Out Gunns Out, Gore Goats, Fast Pepperoni, the list goes on.
We appreciate the Gunn family's optimism with their team name, “Suns Out Gunns Out” and, considering the intense downpour that immediately followed the pack down of this event I think we can count ourselves luck with the weather. There was no sun, but thankfully the rain drops were kind.
First off, thanks a million to the fantastic course set up by Grant Baker. Lots of twists and turns through the grounds of Anderson Park which I know everyone found to be the perfect balance of challenging, yet interesting. The short distance of 1.3kms meant there was no holding back and there was some fantastic fun competition observed.
STP Turtles took off at pace, and were first a cross the line in 22:41. Our 5 young Harriers who train together, play together and compete together inspire all of us and it is fantastic to see them attending and enjoying the novelty events the Southland Harriers host throughout the season.
Family teams were definitely the theme of the day, and we think this is the best part of the being Southland Harriers, that families can come out together and enjoy a run in a safe environment. I am pretty sure Mr. Gentle may have run some consecutive loops with his young family and there were some big smiles going down from what I saw. Congratulations to all of those families who put a team together, and all the teams who accepted rogue runners to their teams.
Thanks to all the volunteers and everyone who showed up early to ensure a smooth start to the event. See you all again this weekend in Winton, for a new event and new course!!!
