Shoe Clinic Race 2-Winton
53 Runners Participated on Saturday.
11 Volunteers assisted during the setup and running of the event.
The Douglas family put on quite the show on Saturday in Winton. A wonderful new venue for what was a outstanding Southland Cross-Country course. Thank you for the warm cuppa's, the yummy lolly cake, and the very healthy carrot sticks, at the finish line. I know our soaked volunteers and runners appreciated your 5 star hospitality.
As for the course, there was something for everyone, and despite the rain I noted a lot of smiles, especially from our junior crowd. There was mud, creek crossings, hay bales over fences, and both cruisy and technical trail running. The fall colours along the Winton Rotary Trail made for a magic backdrop, and every participant should be proud of their effort on the day, it was not an easy course.
This event was our first handicapped event of the season, a very difficult event to handicap due to the terrain challenges and the distance for the seniors. Still there were some very close finishes, and the camaraderie and encouragement that I watched occur on the course as runners slowly started to catch up with each other was heartening to see.
Finally thank you to all the volunteers on the day. There were a few first timers (literally timing the event), and it would not have been easy standing out in the rain for the entirety. I did hear there were some epic slides into the finish line to keep them entertained though, so thanks for that team.
See you all for the 3 in 1 this coming weekend!!!
