Welcome to The Village Viewpoint sponsored by Gavin and Cassie Murphy and the team at Gee and Hickton Ltd Funeral Directors, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, and Porirua. Some great wins again over the weekend for our teams; another five from five weekend, which pleased the old-timers and current-timers no end. This week there are some huge games, and none bigger than the Ponies, who are playing their semi-final vs MSP. Get down to the Rec this Saturday, as four out of our five teams are playing at home. |
So let’s start with the ‘Game of the Week’. After a fantastic win in freezing conditions at Porirua Park, our Ponies take on MSP and will be feeling confident after a comprehensive victory in the second round of games. MSP, as we know, are not a team to be taken lightly, and no doubt our girls will be not underestimating the threat they pose. We want to see as many people out there as possible. If the weather isn’t great, sit in the stands and cheer our girls on. |
Another big winner on the weekend was our Colts side. OBU Green have been a traditional powerhouse for many years, so to come away with a close victory away from home will do wonders for this young side’s confidence. They will look to continue their good form against a strong MSP side, who also sit abreast of us on competition points, with 24. Top four is not unrealistic for our Colts, but I’m sure they will be focussing on one game at a time. |
Our Prem 2s had a great win at Helston Park over the weekend, with more legends coming out of retirement. Pere, Joseph, Moala, Lolohea and Vigne made a big impact on the game and it says a lot about both of the spirit of the club and these men that they continue to help out when needed. This week they look to win big vs Northern United at home. |
The Brotherhood keep winning. We had another club legend sighting, with Chris ‘Bushy’ Molenaar leading from the front in a win over Wainui in terrible conditions on both the #2 and #3 grounds due to a serious injury. We hope for a fast recovery. Another great club name, ‘Cleland’ was also on hand to ref the game, and I am told that this youngster did a fantastic job. This week, our boys head out to face Johnsonville and they will be looking to build on this good form. |
The Prems won another ‘must-win’ vs Johnsonville on the weekend and will look for a somewhat easier game at home vs Norths. This will be an opportunity to rest the odd player, though with so many injuries, we may not have that luxury. On form, we should come out on top, but you can never take anything for granted in the Swindale Shield. Get down to The Rec this weekend for all of the action; here’s hoping for more success. |

Since 2018, Milly has been a consistent performer for the Ponies, and an important cog in the rise of our Premier Women's program. A product of Newlands College, Milly has been rewarded with representative honours for both the Pride and Poua, and we are excited to see what the future holds for the young half back. Milly has also played a role in union initiatives to get more women into rugby. Thank you Milly for your service to our club, and rugby in the Wellington region, congratulations on 50 caps. Ngā mihi nui ki a koe! Milly's blazer will be presented at the club this Saturday night as part of the aftermatch formalities, so join us at the clubrooms! |
Premier loose forward Braith Ingram has been in scintillating form this season, and his consistency must have representative coaches taking notice. He leads the Billy Wallace best and fairest points table with 3 rounds to play. Stay in it Braith! |

Club sponsor Gallagher are proud to introduce the Club Kickback initiative, designed to help rugby clubs secure long-term financial support while providing competitive insurance solutions to the businesses that support them. When a referred business appoints Gallagher as their insurance adviser, 15% of the broking fee for the business’s insurance programme will be paid to the club. Even better, the club will continue to receive this fee percentage every year Gallagher manages the insurances. Get in behind it! |
