St. Pauls Street Mile@The Ascot
42 Runners and 13 Volunteers Participated in Saturdays Event
Brrrrrrrrr, some hardy, hardy runners hit the streets on Saturday for the 40th Annual Street Mile, held for the 2nd time at The Ascot Hotel. With the rain, the wind and the sleet the undercover area outside the Ascot was a blessing for not only the pre-race participants but also for all the supporters. We are grateful for the support of the Ascot Hotel and the new course is proving to be fast and safe for all of our runners young and older. 42 runners is one of the best turnouts in years, so thank you for everyone who showed up for the competition and the experience of a mile event, its definitely something special.
It was good to see runners self seeding themselves at the start line. This is great for safety but also lets our gun runners get out in front for a good race. Having a look at last years results, there has been some good gains made in the this distance since last year, across all ages and abilities.
Lewis Blay, a St.Pauls runner took out top spot this year in a time of 4 minutes 52 seconds, almost chased down by Cayden Sanginiti, a mere 2 seconds behind.
Abby O'Boyle was in good form after missing a few events this year due to injury and crossed the finished line first female in 5 minutes 40 seconds, followed closely by Kimberley Iversen 3 seconds later.
A extra big shout out to our Junior runners, a lot who ran the course for the first time this year, and with standout performances in the weather. Of note was the Dad or two out there as well, yes we saw you!!
Thank you to everyone to hung around for prize giving, and some after race treats. It is always great when runners hang around and support those who support them.
