Hi Members                                  

Hello May and Autumn months.

Soon the green leaves will give way to orange and brown, with the trees giving off a show of Autumn colours before baring their branches for all to see.

The Clubrooms are now in Winter opening mode, giving El Presidente come Bar Manager, Glenda Lamb, a well earned break.

However, the Senior Prizegiving is still to be held on Saturday May 14th.

A successful Bingo afternoon was enjoyed at the Club on Sunday, May 1st.

Thanks to Megan Earley for organising and the patrons that attended,. Good times.

 

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The last of the 2021 - 2022 softball season celebrations is about descend on the Clubrooms.  Saturday May 14th the Club will host the Senior Prizegiving commencing at 7pm.  Batons up draw will be also be conducted during the evening.

 Entry fee of $20 to be paid at door on arrival.

Buffet supper will follow the Awards, then the floor will be cleared so you can dance the night away to the sounds from DJ BRU

The Club is now in WINTER MODE with reduced opening hours. Closed on Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays. Open Tuesday 3pm with 4pm opening on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Unless of course you have a function you would like to arrange. Open to bookings.

                                Time for the Women to make an appearance. 

                  Looking back to 1988 -89. This team were winners of NZ Club Championship, Auckland Champions, Brother Patrick, Lion Red Tournament and the Northern League.

           BUT  - Who is that handsome dude surrounded by all those females  - and the 

                                little Bat Girl.   Can you put a name to her face?

                                Who has the Spotlight fallen down on this month

 ……………….No ---  its not Father Clive this month- it’s POPPA Stu…………………………….

A recipient of many accolades in his lifetime, both in softball and soccer, so is truly worthy of a Spotlight beaming down on him.

A career that has spanned more years than a lot of our members have been alive, or care to remember.

Stuart Kinghorn – known by his friends as Stu, played for Ramblers before moving to Auckland United, then switched back to Ramblers in 1977, where he remained until retiring in 1980.

Stu went on to coach both Ramblers Premier Men, Premier Women, Auckland Women from 1985– 1990 and Auckland Men.

Stu also played for Auckland Softball for 13 seasons, 5 of these as Captain, Manager of Auckland Men for 4 years.

He attended 13 Club Nationals with Auckland United and Ramblers.

As if this is not enough time on the diamond, Stu then took on coaching Mt Albert Grammar softball boys with great success at Secondary Schools Nationals, taking the team to 6 Championships from 2013 - 2018.  2012 finished 3rd  2011 - were Auckland Champions however did not attend Nationals.

In great recognitions of his involvement Stu has received the following awards:

1991/92  ASA Service Award

1992 Ramblers Paunovic Cup

1993 Ramblers Life Member

1995/96 ASA Life Member

1995/96 Recipient ASA Ben Davis Trophy

Stu is father to former White Sox player, Jan, Lynley Evans and Brent.

Stu is a regular at the Club on Friday members night, and of course on the side of the diamonds, especially when his grandchildren are on the diamond.

A passionate devoted father, grandfather and softball supporter.

 TO  all the winners at the recent BINGO afternoon. What a great time was had by all that attended.  Thank you to all for your support.

TO  Megan Earley for showing great restraint calling the numbers at the Bingo afternoon, consious of the fact there were “littlies” in attendance.

Warren Freer 

Now that softball has given way to rugby, Warren Freer is now under the guidance of Eden Rugby.  The astro turf diamond and batting cages can still be utilised by softballers, however the grass areas have to receive permission of Eden Rugby to use. Please contact Administrator to book Astro turf and Batting cages.
