Men's netball

Notice: Monday 21 February 2022

At a meeting of the CNC Men’s committee, after discussions had been held with CMMN, it has reluctantly been decided that it is not in our players best interests to attempt to hold a Men’s competition for 2022 while CMMN have indicated their intention to do so.

We had sought assurance from CMMN that any player that played in a CNC competition would still be eligible for selection for Men’s and/or Mixed Nationals but have been unable to get that assurance.

NNZ have developed a Male Participation Working group, who are currently discussing supporting and growing male participation in Netball.  As part of the consultation across the Netball system NNZ and NZMMNA are discussing opportunities for development and alignment of the ongoing participation opportunities of Men’s Netball.

Player welfare has always been and will remain our main focus and providing and encouraging participation and pathways are an important part of the CNC strategic plan.

Christchurch Netball Centre's affiliation with Mens netball represents the culmination of four years of vision and planning by the group, particularly toward developing men’s and mixed netball in the region.

On the back of the recent success of the Silver Ferns and NZ Men’s series of games it seems to be a natural progression to incorporate men’s netball into the Netball Centre. This is an exciting development for netball not only in Christchurch but throughout the netball community.

Men's competition is being played indoors in the traditional season of May – July and mixed netball competition is indoors available October – December each year.

The Men’s competition is currently played indoors on a Friday night and is open to players both competitive and social. The administrative support of CNC supports the talented group of male players and competent and experienced coaches.

In season 2020 mixed netball was offered for the first time for Under 16 and Under 18 levels played outdoors on Saturdays at Hagley Park. Schools and Clubs are being supported to get these new mixed grades teams up and running.
