The whistler programme runs on Mondays or Saturdays (Platinum Whistlers), Wednesdays or Saturdays (2nd Year Whistlers) and Fridays or Saturdays (First Year Whistlers). Platinum and 2nd Year can choose either Nga Puna Wai 9indoors) or Hagley Park (outdoors) and First Year have the option of Nga Puna Wai (indoors), Rawhiti (under cover) or Hagley Park (outdoors).
All programmes begin the first week of May and end in the 3rd week of August.
There is a fee to participate in the whistler programme:
- 1st and 2nd Year Whistlers - $50
- 3rd Year Whistlers - $50
Whistlers will be provided with:
- A Whistler Rule Book to use and keep.
- Whistlers will receive education on rules and on-court coaching, and will work towards achieving their Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Awards.
- A yellow jacket or vest (to be returned at the end of the season)
- A plastic finger-grip whistle
- Hair ties/wrist band (to indicate centre pass direction)
Responsibilities of Whistlers:
- All first-year whistlers need to provide a support person (this is not a coach)
- Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn.
- Each whistler needs to bring their provided whistle and hair tie/wrist band each week.
- Whistlers need to be punctual, and need to commit to the programme, attend each session and in the event of injury or illness advise absence ASAP.
- If two sessions are missed without explanation the whistler may be removed from the programme

Recruiting | New Whistler Coaches | No experience needed
The Whistlers Program is in need of your services to help coach Whistlers .
We try to have all our coaches as qualified umpires.
This is a way to help young people learn to umpire the sport which we all love, and help them move through to umpire more senior games.
For further information and to become a coach please contact
Pam Ormandy at whistlers@cnc.org.nz or on 021 119 9439.
Your help will be very much appreciated.
