Auckland Schools Mountain Biking have wrapped up the 2026 season, with record participation and a huge boost for the sport across the region.
XC Race 5, hosted by Auckland Downhill Club at Sanders Reserve in Dome Valley, brought the season to a close after an action-packed year of racing.
Mountain biking officially returned to the College Sport Auckland secondary schools sports platform in 2026, with intermediate schools also able to get involved. The move has already made a huge impact, with participation increasing by more than 35% across most events, while some races more than doubled from around 140 riders to as many as 300.
Across the season, riders competed in multiple events, featuring three Enduro races and five Cross Country events. Although the Downhill event was cancelled, we hope to see it in 2027!
Behind every successful race was a dedicated group of volunteers, with club race committees stepping up to organise events at venues and forests that were, in many cases, new to them. Their time, effort and willingness to take on the challenge played a huge role in making the season possible.
A massive congratulations to all the riders, schools, clubs, volunteers and supporters who helped make 2026 such a successful season. We would also like to acknowledge Auckland Schools MTB and their community for all their hard work throughout the year.
