There is a form of rugby for everyone, no matter what your gender, experience level, size or shape. During our rugby season there are over hundreds of games played each week involving over 14,000 players, 190 referees and 1,500 coaches across our three Sub Unions: Metro (which is played in the City) , Ellesmere (South of Christchurch) and North Canterbury (North of Christchurch). Our competitions are unique in that clubs and schools play together.

There are three main sections in Canterbury for both male and female rugby: Junior, Teenage and Senior. Junior Rugby are the grades from Under 6 through to Under 13 and includes the Small Blacks and Rip Rugby versions of the game. Teenage Rugby is for the Under 14's through to Under 18's and the First XV competitions, the Miles Toyota Championship (Boys) and Miles Toyota Cup (Girls) . Senior Rugby covers all rugby beyond the Teenage grades, including Premier/Division 1 Men and Women, Premier Reserve/Division 2, Senior/Division 3, Colts (Under 21) and Classics.
