Canterbury U19 side announced for 2021


2020 1st XV Champions Jamie Carr (Christchurch), Amini Toga (Shirley) and Joel Lam (Burnside) will again team up, this time in the red and black of Canterbury after the former St Andrews College athletes were named in this years Canterbury Under 19s.

While the old Christchurch Boys High backline will also come back together with Keegan McGregor (Linwood), and Callum Simpson (New Brighton) also named in the 30-man squad.

Rangiora High School old boy James Mullan (Sydenham) will have plenty of line out options, with Jamie Hannah (former CBHS), Cormac Dods, Fitifiti Sa and Fletcher Anderson (ex Christs College), as well as George Methven (ex St Bede’s) all targets at set piece.

The Canterbury team will have returning players George Bell, Seb Calder, Joe Brial (Lincoln University), Mitch Cox (Sumner) and McGregor (Linwood) to assist the new recruits develop their skills.

New Brighton’s Alex Yallop and Sumner’s Olly Ryan were not considered due to injury.

The Canterbury U19 has a full calendar of games over the next six weeks and will be coached by second year combination of head coach Simon Kneebone, defence coach Shane Fletcher and attack coach Alex Robertson.

21 August v Moana Pasifika Colts – Linfield

28 August v Tasman U19 Kaikoura Rugby Club

4 September v Southland U19 – Lincoln University

11 September v Tasman B – Blenheim – Landsdowne Park
