Cricket Wellington Farewells Sam Mills

 General

Cricket Wellington would like to thank Sam Mills, who will be finishing up with the organisation on Tuesday 23 June as he embarks on an exciting new adventure in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Since joining Cricket Wellington in July 2023 as Events and Membership Manager, Sam has played a key role in delivering memorable experiences for members, fans, partners and the wider cricket community.

Across his three seasons with Cricket Wellington, Sam has overseen approximately 500 memberships each year while managing hospitality operations for a number of major international fixtures, including tours by Australia, England and the West Indies. He was also involved in celebrating the White Ferns' ICC Women's T20 World Cup triumph in 2024, helping bring the trophy tour to Wellington and giving local fans the opportunity to share in a special moment for New Zealand cricket.

Sam's time with Cricket Wellington has coincided with a highly successful period on the field. He witnessed three Super Smash titles from the Wellington Blaze and a Plunket Shield triumph for the Wellington Firebirds during his time with the organisation.

Beyond match days, Sam has supported a range of important events and initiatives, including the launch of Don Neely's book, while consistently bringing enthusiasm, care and professionalism to everything he has been involved in.

Cricket Wellington General Manager of Brand and Partnerships Jasmine Bailey says Sam's impact on the organisation will be felt for years to come.

"We are incredibly grateful for Sam’s dedication, energy, care, and commitment to delivering outstanding experiences for everyone connected to our game and across our wider networks. Over the past three seasons, Sam has been the heart of our team, creating memorable moments for many through his passion for sport and people. He will be hugely missed, and we wish him all the very best as he heads off to explore the world and embrace every opportunity ahead."

Sam says his time at Cricket Wellington has been one of the most rewarding experiences of his life.

"Working at Cricket Wellington truly has been one of the biggest blessings of my life. Getting to come to the Cello Basin Reserve each day for work is something most people dream about and for the past three years it has been my reality. Seriously, it is such a privilege to have had this in my life.

"I've loved working with and alongside the best cricket fans, members, community, players and staff in this country. I've had plenty of laughs and fun here mixed in alongside long days and hard work. Thank you to everyone involved with Cricket Wellington. This really is such a special organisation and I will miss it so much."

As previously announced, recently retired Wellington Firebird Michael Snedden has undertaken a handover with Sam and will take over as Events and Membership Manager.

On behalf of everyone at Cricket Wellington, we thank Sam for his outstanding contribution and wish him all the very best for the next chapter in Denmark.
