Cricket Wellington has announced a new partnership with Mobil Oil New Zealand, supporting the delivery of community cricket programmes and helping more young people access the game across the Wellington region.
Under the theme Fuelling Community Cricket, Mobil will support Cricket Wellington's Cricket For All pilot programme, helping reduce barriers to participation and create more opportunities for junior and youth cricketers across the region.
The partnership will support programme delivery, transport and community engagement, enabling Cricket Wellington staff to reach more schools and communities throughout Wellington.
It also recognises the people who go the extra mile to make community cricket possible, from coaches and volunteers to parents, families and those working behind the scenes.
Cricket Wellington Chief Executive Officer Todd Bryant said the partnership was a practical example of how businesses can make a meaningful contribution to grassroots sport.
"Growing participation and making cricket more accessible is a key priority for Cricket Wellington, and Mobil's support will help us reach more young people across our communities.
"It's also a significant year for both organisations, with Mobil celebrating 130 years in New Zealand and Cricket Wellington marking our 150th anniversary. Both organisations have a long history of supporting communities, and this partnership is an opportunity to build on that legacy.
"Every summer, so many people go the extra mile to make cricket happen. This partnership is about fuelling that effort and creating more opportunities for the next generation to enjoy our game," Bryant said.
Mobil Oil New Zealand Chair Wayne Ellary said the partnership reflects Mobil's commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates.
"Mobil is proud to be an active and engaged member of the communities in which we operate. Through our support of Cricket Wellington's Cricket For All pilot programme, we are helping make cricket more accessible for girls and children from diverse communities. By reducing barriers to participation, we hope more people can experience the benefits of sport and community connection."
The partnership will initially focus on the delivery of Cricket For All initiatives throughout the Wellington region, with Cricket Wellington and Mobil working together to measure the programme's impact on participation and community engagement.
Through the partnership, both organisations aim to strengthen community cricket and support the people and programmes that make the game accessible to more Wellingtonians.
