Cricket Wellington appoints new competitions manager

Cricket Wellington is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Young as competitions manager to oversee and lead all cricket competitions and tournaments in the Capital.

Young joins Cricket Wellington with eight years’ experience in cricket – initially with his own bat-making business and more recently in the sales and marketing team at New Zealand bat manufacturer Laver and Wood.

‘‘This is a great opportunity to work with people who are just as passionate about cricket as I am and help grow the game here in Wellington,” said Young.

‘‘I’ve played in pretty much every competition that I’ll be working in, so I’ve got an invested interest.

‘‘I like to think of myself as an open book and always available, so this role for me isn’t about sitting at a desk, it's more about getting out to the clubs and understanding their challenges and helping them have better cricket experiences.’’

Alongside the delivery of competitions and tournaments in the region Young will also manage all umpire appointments and oversee the CricHQ database of players, coaches, and volunteers.

Cricket Wellington general manager Liz Green said the appointment of a new competition’s manager further reflected the organisation’s commitment to its clubs.

‘‘Our number one priority is community cricket and our clubs and the competitions we manage are a vital part of the game here in the Capital,’’ she said.

‘‘Paul’s appointment means that we can continue the great work we have begun in the club and competitions space and means we can provide real-time support to all of our club stakeholders to ensure they continue to have great cricket experiences this summer.’’

Paul can be contacted at [email protected] or on 022 039 3578.
