Welcome to the Cross Recreation Centre Half Marathon, 10 km, 5 km and Family Fun Run events.  We are looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday, please find below some key reminders:


Please park in the Cross Recreation Centre Carpark, which is located on the Riverside Reserve side of the facility. Please refrain from parking on Glasgow Street, if possible.

Athlete check in:

Will be open at the Cross Recreation Centre from 8:15am registration desks will be situated in the main reception foyer.

Come and see us to collect your official race number, which will include your timing transponder.  

Late registration fees will apply on the day, payments can be made via cash or Eft-pos

Gear drop off: (Only for the Half Marathon)

You may leave a small bag of your personal belongings at the start line of your event, containers will be provided to place your gear in.  Belongings will be transported back to the Cross Recreation Centre for you to collect from the New World Balclutha Sports Arena, JD Souness court upon completion of your event.

Transport to the start line:

There will be a bus provided for participants out to the start line of the Half Marathon event. This will leave from the Cross Recreation Centre Carpark at the time listed below:

Pre-Race Briefing:

Instructions/reminders will be announced prior to each event.

Please ensure that you are always aware of other competitors, and please allow them room to pass if required.

Drink Stations:

There will be water aid stations situated along the course of the Half Marathon, as well as one at the event finish area. 

We will be removing disposal cups from all water aid stations this year, we encourage athletes to bring reusable cups, hydration packs or water bottles. We are doing our part to protect our beautiful region and reduce the environmental impact of our event.

PLEASE NOTE:  there will be NO drink stations provided on the course for the 5 km and the Family Fun Run event.


Portable toilets will be available at the start area of the Half Marathon and again at approximately 10km to go. There will also be toilets available within the Cross Recreation Centre facility.

Distance markers:

Marker signs located on the roadside will be showing the distance completed for the Half Marathon event only.

Road Conditions & Balclutha Bridge crossing:

All roads and/or streets utilized during all events will be open to vehicular traffic.  ALL participants must keep to RIGHT side of the road and must always be within 1m of the curb/roadside.  

As participants reach the Balclutha bridge, there will be specific race marshals providing directions to a track taking you under the bridge where you make you way back up the other side of the riverbank and then continue across the bridge itself.  

PLEASE NOTE: The finish line will now be situated outside the Cross Recreation Centre


St John Balclutha will be providing First-Aid for those requiring treatment.



Change facilities & toilets:

There will be limited changing room facilities, including showers and family rooms, available for everyone to use within the Cross Recreation Centre.  Toilets are located throughout the Centre.

Food and Bar: 

There will be coffee trucks, food stalls and BBQ on site. Eftpos and cash will be avaliable.

PLEASE NOTE:  There will not be any ‘cash out’ options available.


Preliminary results will be available as soon as possible and for prizegiving.  Participants will be emailed the results once they are finalized and they will be posted on the Cross Recreation Centre website www.crossrecreationcentre.co.nz 


Will be held at 1:30 pm in the event finish area/inside the Cross Recreation Centre weather dependent.  There will be trophy presentations for the Half Marathon and 10 km events, along with placegetter prizes, spot prizes and acknowledgements.  

Race Rules:

  • iPods and Headphones are prohibited during this event
  • No dogs are allowed on the course
  • The walking event is for walkers.  Walkers determined to be running will be disqualified
  • Athlete race number is always to be displayed
  • All participants must keep to right side of the road and always be within 1m of the curb/roadside
  • Race officials reserve the right to remove competitors showing signs of distress during the event
  • Entrants in the 5 km and/or 10 km event who are under 13 years of age and younger on race day must always be accompanied by an adult on the course
  • Entrants in the Half Marathon event must be 16 years of age on race day
  • This event is run under Athletics NZ rules, open to all bona fide amateurs, registered, or not registered with Athletics NZ
