Club Based Referees

If you require a referee, please contact them directly from the list below to see who is available.

AFF have said they are no longer able to accommodate referee requests due to a shortage.

They are also unwilling to appoint referees to 'dangerous games' although they are apparently still expecting clubs to send teams to play them.  If you anticipate an issue with a team, please get in touch with Drury club admin.

Club Based Referees (CBRs) have completed a basic referee course and are authorised to referee at matches as requested (subject to conditions outlined below).

If you require a Drury CBR to referee a match, please contact them directly to arrange.

AFF REFEREES: Youth or Senior teams requiring a qualified Referee can book one via the club. This requires at least 14 days notice & does carry a cost to the club so is not to be requested unnecessarily and is not available to junior teams 9th-12th grades.

CBRs undertake a basic referee course, consisting of 2 sessions of 2 hours each with a short exam on the 2ndnight  and it’s very rare anyone doesn’t pass.  The theory is that CBRs will have a better-than-average understanding of regulations and therefore referee to an acceptable standard.

CBRs receive a certificate from NZ Football, a registration card and an official CBR referee shirt from Auckland Football to wear when officiating. They MUST have their card and shirt with them to receive precedence as a CBR. No card/no shirt = no rights.

A CBR has the rights and obligations of an appointed official and any abuse of CBRs is dealt with severely.

We have a number of CBRs at DUFC but they aren’t always available to referee matches as they have their own team commitments, so the ideal is one CBR per team.

DUFC is fortunate to have Nigel Frost, a NZ Football Referee, as one of our members and he has kindly offered his assistance to the CBRs as an advisor.

We get reports every season about poor referees (bad calls, lack of knowledge, unfair, biased, etc) – incidents of these are reduced when referees have at least basic training.  Some clubs consistently send their own biased CBRs to every match and the only way to avoid having to accept them at home games is to have a CBR of your own.

Most of our CBRs decided to get certified after suffering at the hands of poor referees.

If you are interested in becoming a CBR, courses are run regularly. Check out dates on our website ‘Tournaments & Courses’ page or at AFF: Click here

The course is $95 and DUFC will pay half on the proviso CBRs make themselves available to club teams as requested whenever possible.
