Dunsandel / Irwell Rugy Football Club

In 1993, the Dunsandel Rugby Football Club and the Irwell Rugby Football Club joined together to become the Dunsandel/Irwell Rugby Football Club (DIRFC). The combined club was very successful both on and off the field, with title wins and an increasing number of players registering for the DIRFC.

The DIRFC has always had a strong JAB as part of the club. This tradition of focusing on young people playing rugby and their parents/supporters becoming part of a community club continues today.

After several years of having combined senior teams being based away from Dunsandel, DIRFC returned to hosting our own Senior teams in 2012, which included a women’s team.

In 2014, DIRFC joined with Burnham Rugby Football Club to become Burnham/Dunsandel/Irwell, BDI for short, involving our Senior teams. This franchise has allowed us to field teams in all the senior grades, which allows players to choose the grade they wish to play in. Both clubs have retained their individual identities whilst utilising the resources, facilities and infrastructure of both clubs for the betterment of players, sponsors and supporters.

The DIRFC committee is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the Dunsandel/Irwell Club and the BDI franchise is the club that players take pride in playing for, is well resourced and supported by the local communities, and helps grow the game - which ultimately makes rugby the winner.
