Active Steps to Recovery

The Green Prescription programme has joined forces with the Salvation Army Bridge Programme in Whangarei to build a strong and supportive relationship - working together to help individuals on their recovery journey and reconnect with physical activity and overall wellbeing.

Every eight weeks, a new group begins their path with the Bridge Programme, a residential addiction recovery service that supports individuals in rebuilding their lives. As part of their holistic approach to healing, the Green Prescription team is invited to deliver a presentation to each new intake, introducing the benefits of physical activity and the support available through the programme.

This partnership is more than just a presentation - it’s a bridge to better health. Green Prescription staff work closely with Bridge Programme participants to make physical activity and nutrition support as accessible and inclusive as possible. Whether it’s walking groups, gentle gym sessions, or one-on-one support, the goal is to meet people where they’re at and help them move forward.

The collaboration has already seen many success stories, with participants reporting improved mood, increased energy, and a renewed sense of purpose. For many, it’s the first step toward reclaiming their health and discovering what their bodies—and minds—are capable of.

Together, Green Prescription and the Salvation Army Bridge Programme are proving that when community organisations unite with a shared vision, the impact can be life changing.

At Sport Northland we exist to enrich Northlander's lives by inspiring and enabling more movement and one of the ways we do this is through Green Prescription - supporting people on their journey.  If you would like some support with your activity goals, give us a call on phone 0800 ACTIVE, we are here to help.
