We have been working hard in 2024 and are super proud and excited to announce two amazing achievements that have come this week.

FC Nelson have received our NZ Football Club Licence, a New Zealand Football run program aimed at increasing the quality of club football throughout the country.

The National Club Licence establishes a set of minimum standards for clubs to compete at the highest level, including guidance around running youth and reserve teams in addition to a first team. The guidance also outlines coaching qualification requirements.

The overall aim of Club Licensing at NZF is to raise the level of club football throughout New Zealand. With this in mind, four main goals have been developed:

1. Understand and safeguard club football in New Zealand;
2. Raise the level of professionalism in club football through strengthening their facilities, structures, administration, and technical and sporting development;
3. Identify and share best club practices in New Zealand;
4. Formalise requirements for participation in domestic club competitions.

FC Nelson have completed the NZ Football Xero Together Stronger – Club Support Programme – only the 3rd club in the South Island to have done so.

New Zealand Football in collaboration with the six member Federations have designed the Club Support Programme to help achieve the purpose for football in NZ - to enrich lives and connect people through positive experiences to build strong communities.

The Xero Together Stronger - Club Support Programme provides an opportunity for clubs, regardless of their size or location to:

• increase their governance and operating capability.
• improve their financial and planning processes.
• provide safe environments for all members including children and vulnerable adults.
• understand and connect with their communities with a specific focus on girls and women and diverse communities.
• and to provide quality football and futsal experiences to their members including players, coaches, referees and volunteers.
