Saturday Night saw the Referee Awards Night take place, which was an event that recognized the services, dedication and success of match officials in the 2018 footballing season.
The event took place at the New Lynn RSA and was organized by Committee members, Dave Brooke, Cameron Dickson-Hards, Riley Greenbury, Tom Day and Stephanie Brown.
“The 2018 Auckland Football Federation Referee Awards Dinner was an opportunity for those within the referee group to be recognized for their efforts and commitment to be the best they can be on and off the field in striving for excellence” Brooke said.
“Recognition awards were presented for achievement, service, dedication and success and covered junior referees all the way up to the elite within AFF referees.”
AFF CEO Steven Upfold said the event was a great opportunity to congratulate a number of people for their wonderful contribution on and off the field of play in 2018.
“There are countless examples of referees and officials who have been acknowledged in years gone by at this event who have subsequently gone on to perform at national and international level,” Upfold said.
“It was refreshing to see the next group of officials coming through that pathway acknowledged on Saturday for their outstanding work this year and I challenge them to keep working on developing their talent, just as those before them have, for the ultimate benefit of not only themselves but our game in a wider sense.”
