Mighty Midgets (U6's and U7's)

  • These are two seperate competitions (U6's and U7's).
  • Competition is comprised of other FSMR teams.
  • This grade plays Rippa Rugby.
  • Games start at 9am.
  • Teams play two 25 minute halves and are finished around 10am.
  • All games are played at Victoria Park.
  • ​​​​​​​There are no scrums or line outs in this grade.
  • Size 2 1/2 (two and a half) balls are used.
  • Teams play on modified fields in the south/west corner of Victoria Park (see Fields tab).
  • 7 a-side.
  • This is a non competitive grade, results do not contribute to an overall winner.
  • Generally speaking this grade doesn't practice.

This grade is very special because John Cox, of Professionals Real Estate, donates lollies for a lolly scramble every week :-)

Midgets (U8's and U9's)

U8's

  • Competition is comprised of other FSMR teams.
  • Games start at 9am, although it is requested that players arrive at 8:30am for team warm up/practice.
  • U8's is the first year of tackle rugby.
  • All players are required to complete the MRU tacklebox module prior to starting tackle rugby.  FSMR will organise this for all U8's players.
  • Size 3 balls.
  • Games are started with a tap kick at half way.
  • Uncontested line outs and scrums (no pushing).
  • 5 players from each team constitute a scrum.
  • All games are played at Victoria Park.

U9's

  • Compeition is comprised of other FSMR teams.
  • Uncontested line outs and scrums (no pushing).
  • Games start at 9am, although it is requested that players arrive at 8:30am for team warm up/practice.
  • 10 aside competition.
  • Size 3 balls.
  • This is the first year where 'fending' is permitted, however, fending must be below the nipple line.
  • All games are played at Victoria Park.
  • This is a non competitive grade; results do not contribute to an overall winner.

Under 10's 

  • Teams compete in the U10's Manawatu Rugby Union (MRU) competition. 
  • First 'travelling grade'.
  • Games start at 10am.
  • Games are played at Ongley Park, Victoria Park and maybe Bush Park (Pahiatua). 
  • 12 aside competition.
  • Contested line outs and scrums (no pushing).
  • Played on 3/4 size fields.
  • Size 3 balls.
  • All players will be required to wear the FSMR PGG Wrightsons Socks. In this grade, PGG Wrightsons donates the first pair to all players. Replacement socks can be purchased from Gracies in Feilding.
  • FSMR Shorts are to be worn. These can be purchased at Gracies in Feilding.
  • This is a non competitive grade, results are recorded but do not contribute to an overall winner.
  • Coaches boxes (behind the goal post) are compulsory in this grade.

Under 11's 

  • Teams compete in the U11's Manawatu Rugby Union competition.
  • Games start at 10am.
  • Gemes played at Ongley Park, Victoria Park and maybe Bush Park (Pahiatua). 
  • First year of 15 aside competition.
  • Played on a full size field.
  • 8 in a line out.
  • Size 3 balls.
  • ​​​​​​​FSMR Shorts are to be worn. These can be purchased at Gracies in Feilding.
  • This is a competitive grade.
  • Coaches boxes (behind the goal post) are compulsory in this grade.

Under 12's

  • Teams compete in the U12's Manawatu Rugby Union competition.
  • Games start at 11am.
  • First grade using powered scrums (-/+ 1m).
  • Games played on full size fields.
  • No lifting in the line outs.
  • 8 in a line out.
  • Size 4 balls.
  • 2 x 30 minute halves.
  • Games are played at Ongley Park, Victoria Park and maybe Bush Park (Pahiatua).​​​​​​​
  • This is a competitive grade.
  • Coaches boxes (behind the goal post) are compulsory in this grade.

Under 12's/Under 13's

  • If there are insufficient teams for an U13's grade, a composite grade (U12's/U13's grade) may be created. This is dependant on player numbers.
  • Teams compete in the Manawatu Rugby Union U12's/U13's competition.
  • Games are played on full sized fields.
  • 8 in a line out.
  • Size 4 balls.
  • 2 x 30 minute halves.
  • Games are played at Ongley Park, Victoria Park and maybe Bush Park (Pahiatua).

  • This is a competitive grade.
  • Coaches boxes (behind the goal post) are compulsory in this grade.

Under 13's

  • Teams may  compete in the Manawatu High School Under 14's B competition if there are not enough teams to form a junior club U13's competition.
  • FSMR teams will play at Victoria Park or Timona Park for home games. Away games may be played at other High Schools or Club home grounds if in the U14's B competition.
  • Size 4 balls.
  • 8 in a line out.
  • Games are played on full sized fields.
  • 2 x 30 minute halves.
  • Games start at 9:50am.
  • This is a competitive grade.
  • Coaches boxes (behind the goal post) are compulsory in this grade.

Notes

  • Manawatu does not have weight restricted grades. All grades are open grades.
  • Mouth guards are required to be worn by all FSMR players.  Players can not be on the field without one.
  • FSMR provides jerseys for all teams. 
  • FSMR provides the 1st mouth guard at the beginning of the season for all players.
  • NZRU half game rule applies.  In all grades, all players must play at least half a game (or two quarters).
  • Players will be required to buy their own boots.
