Around the park

Greetings from Feilding Saturday Morning Rugby (FSMR) 2024

On behalf of the FSMR Committee, it gives us great pleasure to welcome our new players, returning players, parents, caregivers and whanau to what we hope will be a fun-filled rugby season with FSMR in 2024.

Before registering, or if you have any queries, please read the information on this website, particularly the Registration and Grade Information tabs, or have a look over on our Facebook page (link on right hand side of this page).  Important information this year is the code of conduct policy.  Please read this information carefully before you register your child.  It can be found under the Registrations tab.

Over the season, we will be updating our Facebook page and our website with important events and notices, so please check in every now and then to remain up to date.

FAQs

For 2024 we will be moving to school year groups instead of age groups. This is the same for all junior clubs in the manawatu rugby union and will align everyone to how other regions in NZ grade junior rugby.

EG Under 6 - Year 1

Under 7 - Year 2 and so fourth

How do I register my child?

Registrations must be completed online www.sporty.co.nz/fsmr and full payment needs to be made in order for the registration to be completed. If payment is not made then the registration will show up as incomplete and players will not be able to take the field.

How can I order a hoodie?

Orders can be ordered and prepaid for alongside the registrations. We place one bulk order through each year and there is a cut off date for this. Hoodies will then be available for collection on the first game of the season.

How do I know if rugby is on each week?

Check our Facebook page. Very rarely is rugby cancelled. We will notify of cancellations on this Facebook page as soon as the call is made. There is no need to PM us to ask. If there is no post on Facebook, then you can assume rugby is still on. Cancellation calls will not be made until it is light and we can assess the state of the fields. Remember it is a winter sport and that involves mud, rain and cold temperatures. If you feel that your child is unlikely to manage in the weather, then please keep them well and at home. Otherwise pack a warm jacket and some gumboots and enjoy your time outside. We have coffee carts on both sides of the field, so grab a hot drink and enjoy.

What gear do I need?

We supply players with one mouthguard and a playing jersey. You will need to supply your own boots, socks (yellow and black which can be bought from Gracies in town), black playing shorts (once again these can be bought from Gracies in town). We recommend you bring a jacket or warm jersey for warm ups and sideline moments. For travelling grades, players are required to use the PGG Wrightson socks. Their first pair will be supplied when they are in the U10 grade. Subsequent pairs can be purchased from Gracies in town.

My child hates wearing their mouthguard, do they have to wear it?

Yes. No mouthguard no play.

What time is rugby on?

We start at the fields at 8.30 am for U6, U7, U8 and U9 grades. There is a 30 minute skills and drills/warm up session and then at 9 am the hooter sounds to begin their games. Games for U6 and U7 have two halves of 20 minutes. There is a short POD prizegiving after wards at the gear shed on the West St side of Victoria Park. Games for U8 and U9 have two halves of 25 minutes. This is followed by a short POD prizegiving on the Church St side of the park.

U10, U11, U12 and U13 are travelling grades. These games are part of the wider Manawatu competition and the draw is compiled by the MJRU. You can access the draw on their website and your coaches, convenors will send you information as it becomes available.

Who organises the rugby club?

FSMR is a club run by a group of hardworking volunteers. These people give up their free time after work and family commitments to organise the games each week. Please be mindful of this when you interact with them, as they are putting many hours of their free time to ensure your children have a great experience.

When is Prizegiving/Funday etc?

These events are on Facebook under the events tab. Please familiarise yourself with the details on these events - the timings, locations etc.

ALL OTHER INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED ON FACEBOOK - PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT ON THIS PAGE FOR ANY UPDATES.
