“Without umpires or referees we wouldn’t by playing the sports we enjoy. We all think we know the rules, to be calling the shots in a fast action packed game is a learned task. It takes time and commitment, much like improving your playing skills. Harlequins is fortunate to have people volunteering not only their time to umpire games but to commit to advancing their umpiring skills and work through the stages towards obtained NZ accreditation.
There are four umpires within our club who have obtained their Zone netball umpiring award this season. This award is the first stage to be award by Netball New Zealand and increases the likelihood of these umpires being selected for major representative tournaments.
Congratulations to:
Lucy Mehrtens
Jessica Wooffindin
Christine Hull
Ruby Hull
Ruby Hall was also selected to umpire at the U18 Nationals, a huge honour for her
