Havelock North High School ex-student Benson Wilson (25) has been named Lexus Song Quest winner at the Grand Final Gala at the Auckland Town Hall on Saturday night, 23rd July.

As winner of the 2016 Lexus Song Quest, Benson will receive a cash prize of $20,000 net and a Study Scholarship of $27,000, plus economy international travel up to the value of $3,000.  Benson said he was “blessed to receive this honour and was ready to step up to the challenge.”

Havelock North High School 2009 prizelist shows that Benson won the Kohatu Humarie Trophy – for a student who has contributed to harmony within the school community, the Music Performance Cup – for outstanding musical performance, and the Tikanga Māori Trophy – for outstanding contribution to Tikanga Māori.  Many former students of the school will remember his amazing performance as the Pharaoh in the school’s 2009 production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technocolour Dreamcoat’.
