Brett Angell returns for third season with Hawkes Bay United

Hawkes Bay United is pleased to announce the reappointment of Head Coach Brett Angell.

Angell returns for his third season with the national league club and is committed to building on past successes. He looking forward to pre season training and the opportunity to shape and form the squad.

Chairperson Paula Walker is delighted with the reappointment of Angell and said, “Brett’s drive and passion to make a difference to the game in New Zealand is evident in the achievements of the team in the past two seasons. He is an outstanding coach and we have seen players really develop and grow under his guidance”

Walker added, “along with a grand final appearance in 2015 and finishing second in the league last season, two players signed professional contracts and that is testament to Brett’s coaching abilities and drive to improve all players in the squad”

Fresh from a break with family in the UK, Angell is looking forward to working to put together another strong squad. He was confident that he could retain the bulk on his 2015/16 group but added, “The transient nature of our player base means some players will be unavailable this season but rest assured we are doing our best to identify replacements “

Angell said that the team will again be working hard to showcase Hawkes Bay United and building on the previous seasons successes. “We are committed to the franchise developing local youth players via the National Youth league team and hopefully into my senior squad.  Our close alignment with Central Football and the FTC program has seen the likes Ross Willox, who has been involved the FTC program since the age of 12, progress to the Youth team and onto the first team and ideally will now become an integral part of this seasons squad” Angell hoped that supporters enjoy the style of play and the passion and pride the team will show in the new expanded 10 team league.

“We need our fans continued vocal support to get fully behind the team and for those that have never experienced a game before,  come along and enjoy good entertainment for a couple of hours“ Angell said.

Hawkes Bay United, like most other sporting codes, are not immune to financial challenges and the pressures of running a national league team. “We need our community to get behind us by coming to the games and considering investing in any number of our sponsorship packages available. If we can get that vital support and with Brett, Youth Team coach Jamie Dunning and recently appointed GM Shane McKenzie all working together, with the full support of the HBU Board,  2016/17 is gearing up to be an exciting and action packed season” Chairperson Paula Walker added.

Angell and his team will start their 2016/17 campaign at Labour weekend.
