HCC Barbell Club is a welcoming, whānau-friendly space where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to train, grow, and lift.
Olympic weightlifting (snatch and clean & jerk) might be an individual sport, but around here, we train as a team. We believe in building strength together, physically, mentally, and as a hapori, community.
You might be lifting for your health, your headspace, or a medal. Whatever it is, we’re here for it. We’re proud to promote a drug-free sport and are affiliated with Weightlifting New Zealand.
HCC Barbell Club is run under the HCC Barbell Club Trust, with a focus on supporting the well-being of communities that haven’t always had access to sports like weightlifting. We do this through education, training, and hands-on experience.
We rely on a mix of volunteer support, fundraising, competition entry fees, and grants to keep things running. Every bit helps us continue what we do.
We also work closely with Hale Compound Conditioning. Their founders support our Trust Board with co-designing and running programs that put hauora (well-being) first. We train hard, we run events, we hold space for the community. But it always comes back to people first.
