Welcome Back to Netball for 2022!

Welcome to 2022!! We hope you all had a wonderful festive season and are looking forward to the 2022 netball season. These last few months have been crazy ones, settling into new normals in the traffic light system and being out and about again. This new normal will affect how things are managed as we go forward, but HPNC and the local clubs are hoping these changes will allow us to have a successful “full’ season of netball this year.

Covid 19  and Vaccinations for Players above the age of 12

Netball New Zealand has announced it is mandatory that only vaccinated players, coaches and volunteers ( those above the age of 12 – at this stage ) will be  eligible to participate in the 2022 season, unless they are covered by an official government vaccination exemption.  It is each clubs responsible to manage this, and site all vaccination certificates before players can trial, train or play.   Coaches, umpires, and officials must also adhere to this. This is not a decision made solely by our club, but a directive given to us by our governing body Netball New Zealand.  If these new rules are not adhered to our club will to be able to participate in the 2022 season.  The feature to add certificates will not be live when we release our registration forms, so vaccination certificates will need to be uploaded at a later date.

Player’s safety is our number one priority but we understand this decision may concern some people.  To this end if you have any queries or concerns, please contact our club president Justine Ross via email at [email protected] or on 021 941584.

Covid 19  and Vaccinations for Players below the age of 12

As vaccinations become available for the 5-11 age group, proof of vaccination will be required for that age group. Netball New Zealand is anticipating all players will be required to be vaccinated by the middle of the year. Once we receive more information regarding the younger age group, this will be passed on.

Spectators for 2022

Currently, HPNC is trailing a no-spectators approach for Summer League. We are yet to know if this will be applied for the Winter League season.  Once we know more, we will pass this information on asap.

Pre-Season Training 2022

This year, our pre-season training will be run for Juniors and College/Seniors - prior years we have not held junior training sessions so we are really looking forward to these!   Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting Tuesday 11 January and going  through till Tuesday 8 February. We are only holding Saturday sessions on the 15th and 22nd of January, due to public holiday long weekends.

      Tuesday Sessions

Juniors                          5.00-6.00pm

College/Seniors        6.00-7.00pm

Saturday Sessions

Juniors                           8.30-9.30am

College/Senior           9.30-10.30am

A team of amazing coaches are running our Junior trainings, with focus on different skill sets depending on the session.

Leonie Moore is running our College and Senior trainings which will primarily focusing on fitness.

Please see our Facebook event, for more information.

All participants and spectators over the age of 12 will be required to present a vaccination certificate to attend, with spectators required to wear masks. This is due to the current orange alert level setting, aligned with the requirements for outdoor gatherings of no limits.

Registrations for 2022 season

Registrations will open for the 2022 season on the 15th of January, through our website www.howicknetball.org.nz   Once registration is open, we will notify parents and players.

Please register early, as while netball is a winter sport, we must have team numbers sorted by end of February.  To this end registration will close my mid-February  and all new players after this time can only be accepted on approval by committee and will not guaranteed a place in a team.

This season we are trailing the ability to receive electronic payments for fees at the time of registration.  This will be for bank transfers only as the fees associated with Credit Card transactions are not viable for the club to cover.

Our fees this season are unchanged

Juniors - $200

College - $240

Senior - $275

Uniforms

For those needing new uniforms this year, or if you would like to order training gear, these will be displayed during our Junior muster and College trials. Pricing is still to be confirmed.

Please check that uniforms from last season still fit, including socks. If you have any queries, please contact our Uniform Delegate Leonie Moore on 0277737304 or [email protected] with your name, players name and question.

Trials

Juniors

We are looking at holding a muster for Juniors this season, on Saturday 12 February at 8.30-9.30am. Teams will be announced on Saturday 19 February at 8.30am, where training times will be discussed.

One parent per family, unless arranged with our Junior Club Captain Kyra Chaplin, will be allowed to attend to control numbers where possible. Siblings are asked not to attend. Vaccination certificates will be required for those over the age of 12.

College

College trials are being run on Saturday 12 February and Saturday 19 February at 9.30am. In case of weather or other unforeseen circumstances, please keep Tuesday 22 and Saturday 26 February available.

For those intending to trial for College 1 and 2, please be aware attendance is mandatory at all trials. This rule must be adhered to as it is not fair to other players if people do not arrive.  As trials are not until February amble notice has been given to change any personal or work commitments on these days

A reminder that if selected for college 1 or 2, full attendance is expected for all trainings and games.

One parent per family, unless arranged with our College Club Captain Justine Ross, will be allowed to attend to control numbers where possible. Siblings are asked not to attend. Vaccination certificates will be required for those over the age of 12.

Seniors

We are currently penciling in plans for seniors, based on our registration numbers. Our Senior Club Captain, Michelle Barnett, will be in touch with more information once we know more about what the teams will look like.

Summer League

HPNC Summer League is going ahead from Tuesday 1/Wednesday 2 February. More information can be found on the HPNC website. Teams that have already registered from 2021 will receive more information directly. Jniors teams will need to change their age group to their 2022 age group, based on what year at school they are starting this year. Any Year 8 teams will need to change their registration to College.   For more information visit www.HPNC.org.nz  Please note that Howick Netball has no role to play in the summer Netball League and all queries need to be directed to Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre

Umpires

We are looking to take on some new umpires for the 2022 season. Umpires must be at least Year 9 at school. Due to game availability, we request that umpires do not play school netball. Please contact our Umpire Delegate Kyra Chaplin on 02102247893 with your name and interest.

Coaches

Please contact our Coaches Manager Chelsea Whiteman on 0211652159 if you are interested in coaching a team this season.  Junior coaches must coach in pairs if school aged and cannot be involved in school netball as the time of games on a Saturday clash and it is not far to players if coaches regularly miss games.

I understand this has been a huge inforatmtion dump so please contact us on [email protected] if you have any questions etc. We are all itching to get back into the swing of things and can't wait to see you at pre-season training!

Have a wonderful summer break!

Thanks

Howick Netball Club Committee
