In 1925 the Huntly Golf Club was formed by a small band of enthusiasts, mainly business and professional men and their wives, headed by Dr McDiarmid.
The course was sited on Mary Ralph's property adjoining Ralph's Road and players spent more time searching for lost balls in the long scrub than they did playing golf.
Although details are sketchy, Huntly Golf Club also had another course at Huntly West, on the Harris property (now Baker Block) and another at Pukekapia which is now Pearse's Transport.
In 1932 we moved to Stone Bros farm which was managed by Dave mason who was a keen golfer and a very active member of the club. players used to ride their bicycles up the main road balanciing their small bag of golf clubs on the bar, then crossed over the railway line to the golf course.
In 1939 another move took pace to Julian Ralph's property, which being a dairy unit was very hard to control the growth on the fairways. one player tells the story of a ball landing on a cow's back, then trying to lead it to the green. With the war years approaching and lack of finance we had the use of the property free of charge. Unfortunately the stay here was a short one.
