Inglewood Runners And Walkers Club Fund Talented Young Athlete

Inglewood Runners and Walkers Club are helping fund a verytalented young Taranaki athlete to attend the World Secondary School Cross Country Champs in Paris in Early April. Hannah O`Connor is not a member of the InglewoodClub but belongs to the Egmont Athletic Club has been selected as Captain of the NZSSAA Cross Country Team. The 2017 – 2018 season has been a great one for Hannah. She was named Taranaki Junior Female Athlete of the yearand also Taranaki Junior Sportswoman of the year. Hannah has just had her 17th Birthday. One of Hannah’s latest aims was to go to the Athletics NZ track and Field Champs in mid-March and hopefully qualify for the Junior World Champs.Hannah targeted two events; the Women`s U20 1500 metreevent and the Women’s U18 3000 metres. Winning both of them but unfortunately not getting the qualifying times she wished for. Another aim further down the track is to qualify for the Oceania team to complete in the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in October. The Inglewood Club has a very small membership but over the last number of years have been very happy to give athletes who they consider are worthy of the support some funding to help them achieve their goals.Hannah high standards has achieved some excellent results in Taranaki, North Island, New Zealand and International events. In 2017 she was Ranked 3rd in the World for the Youth Women’s 2000m Steeplechase Event. She is very highly ranked in a number of Athletics New Zealand events. At Athletics NZ Junior Women’s Potts Classic (U20) Hannah won the 3000m Champs for the 3rd consecutive year and is the record holder for the 2 kmSteeplechase for U 17 and U 18 years which shows she is racing against women above her age.Recently at the Egmont Athletics club night at the TET Stadium Inglewood, the club had much pleasure inpresenting Hannah with a cheque to the value of $750.00 to help her on her way to Paris. Inglewood Runners andWalkers club wish her all the best for this event and her other goals.
