Hire our facilities for your summer event

Organisations and groups are welcome to hire our facilities to play social croquet during the summer season from September to April. 

You provide the people and the catering, and we provide all facilities and equipment, plus skilled croquet players to help your group enjoy a few games.

Our beautiful club is surrounded by trees, and is just a 15-minute walk from Wellington’s CBD. There’s a clubhouse with kitchen, indoor seating, and toilets, five croquet lawns, and parking on the premises and nearby.

​​​​​​​Playing croquet

Croquet can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. Up to 40 people at a time, playing as teams of two, can have a fun competition on our five lawns. We can accommodate groups with larger numbers by rotating the teams of players.

We will show newcomers how the game is played, how to hit the ball with the croquet mallet, and the basic strategy.

All you need is flat shoes (trainers are okay), comfortable clothing, hats, sunnies, and sunscreen.

We have plenty of croquet mallets for you to use.

You can get a fun competition off to a flying start if you sort out your teams of four before you arrive so that play can start without delay. Or we can help you with that when you arrive.

Capacity

The clubhouse capacity is up to 50 people (excluding hired caterers). There's room to set up the BBQ and a refreshment area in front of the clubhouse. 

Availability​​​​​​​ - your options

You can book your event with us from September to April at times and on days when there is no tournament or club play, up until 8 pm. We take a Christmas break and close for bookings on 20 December and are not available again until after Wellington Anniversary Day.

In the summer season, available times are usually as listed below, but please talk to our Bookings Co-ordinator about your preferences as there may be some flexibility.

  • Monday 10 am - 4.30 pm

  • Wednesday 1.30 pm - 8 pm

  • Thursday 1.30 pm - 8 pm 

  • Friday 1.30 pm - 8 pm 

  • Saturday 4.30 pm - 8 pm

  • Sunday by arrangement

Hireage rates

Hireage rates are based on the number of people in your party and the expected duration of the event. Due to high demand, Fridays in November and December require a minimum spend of $1000, and are usually booked well in advance.

Booking periods and rates are -

  • 0 - 3 hours, at $30 per person
  • 3 - 4 hours, at $35 per person
  • 4 - 5 hours, at $40 per person
  • 5 - 6 hours, at $45 per person
  • additional $5 per person/per hour thereafter.

The minimum fee is $300, except for the peak Fridays, which are $1,000.

​​​​​​​Deposit required to hold booking dates

Due to popular demand, we cannot hold a booking date unless the correct deposit is paid within five working days. 

  • Standard deposit $300.
  • Peak period deposit $1000.

Note: The club is not GST registered. We do not charge GST.

Catering facilities available

We have a kitchen with a medium-sized fridge, microwave, hot plates and double oven. There is also a portable large gas BBQ available for hire at $40. Visitors will need to make their own catering arrangements - bring your own food, drinks, plates, cutlery, serviettes, and non-glass drinking vessels. 

Please ensure the kitchen and clubhouse are left clean and tidy. All rubbish must be removed from the premises and grounds. Please bring rubbish bags to take away your own rubbish.

We can open the clubhouse earlier than your start time if you have caterers who need early access. There is a fee of $30 for enabling early access.

Hire your own caterers, food truck, or delivery

If you are not self-catering, you can hire caterers, food delivery, or bring in a food truck to our parking area. These options have all been successful for other groups in the past.

Liquor/alcohol

Our club does not sell or provide alcohol. Our clubhouse and premises will be closed for your exclusive use during your private function. Hirers must provide all their own refreshments, and be responsible for all legal requirements including responsible care of their participants and guests. 

Getting to the club

You can get to the club by bus, cable car (get out at the Salamanca Road stop) or car. The club is about a 15-minute walk from the CBD.

There is room for approximately 15 cars in the grounds and two-hour parking on the street outside.

Cancellations

The club facilities are primarily for playing croquet. Therefore the club will cancel in the event of heavy persistent rain and/or the lawns are unusable. The deposit will be refunded in full if the club decides that the weather is unsuitable for play and the event is unable to proceed, and we are unable to offer you another suitable date for your function.

If a hirer cancels a booking 14 days or more before the booked date, the deposit will be refunded in full. If a hirer cancels in 13 days or less before the booked date, the deposit will not be refunded but may be transferred to a booking for another date.

Other conditions of hire

  • All players are to wear trainers or other flat-soled shoes (i.e. no heels). Socks or bare feet are also acceptable.

  • No glass, bottles or crockery are to be taken onto the lawns.

  • No loud music please - this is a residential area.

Our spacious, sunny croquet lawns are just a 15-minute walk from Wellington's CBD.
