Robotics & Coding @ Lucknow

Our journey with Robotics started in 2018, with our Year 5 & 6 students becoming involved with LEGO ev3 robots in real world, problem solving contexts.  We saw instant engagement and development of skills and knowledge across a range on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) as well as the 'soft skills' and Key Competencies - Cooperation, Perseverance, Communication.

We sent a team (Lucknow Ninjas) to a National Tournament in December of 2018 and performed extremely well for our first year, earning a 1st Place Trophy for Coding.  We were then nominated to attend an International Tournament in May of 2019, at Legoland California.

The team morphed into the NZ Blackbots, in collaboration with Mayfair School and we competed on the world stage.  What we thought would be soley a 'learning experience' turned out to be much more, with the team earning a 2nd Place Trophy.  An amazing accomplishment given there were teams from all over the world, with students aged up to 16 years of age.

Robotics has now expanded across the school and we continue to support our After School Robotics Academy (Nauwhea) in collaboration with other schools from across Hawkes Bay.  Our teachers are experts in teaching the foundation skills needed across the curriculum to be successful in the future.

Since 2018, we have continued to find success in the Robotics arena, and love the buzz our children have about being involved.

And the 'Journey' continues......
