Josh Syms has been appointed as the new Magpies Mitre 10 Cup Forwards Coach for the 2018 and 2019 Mitre 10 Cup seasons.
“Josh has a wide and varied coaching portfolio that includes a significant amount of success. He has coached successfully at College First XV level at the likes of Kelston Boys High School, and St Kentigerns College in Auckland and at Southland Boys High. He recently worked with Magpies Head Coach, Mark Ozich in a technical advisor capacity with the National Champion Hastings Boys High First XV in 2017. HBRU Chairman, Brendan Mahony said today.
“Josh also filled a technical advisor role with the Magpies in 2017, assisting with certain aspects of the Magpies’ forwards coaching. He is also a former Heartland Rugby head coach having coached Wairarapa Bush in 2015 and 2016. He also coached Hutt Old Boys Marist to win the Wellington Club Championship in 2014.
We had a strong list of applicants and Josh was the stand out, his record of achievement with the teams he has coached speaks for itself and we believe he is more than ready to take the step to coaching at Mitre 10 Cup level” Mahony further stated.
“I’m hugely excited by the opportunity to work with the Magpies”, Josh Syms stated today. It has been a goal of mine for several years to coach rugby at a professional level and I’m really looking forward to working alongside Mark, whose coaching philosophy I am very familiar with, a really experienced management group and a Magpies squad that has a good blend of experience, promise and talent. I firmly believe that the Magpies can have strong success over the next few seasons and I’m excited to be part of it”. Syms further stated.
