Eight Goal Thriller In Chatham Cup
The Round 4 Chatham Cup tie between Ferrymead Bays and Coastal Spirit required extra time to find a winner, with Coastal advancing into the quarter-final stages when winning 5 - 3 on Friday evening at Ferrymead Park. A healthy size crowd braved the cold conditions, with the temp dipping below zero for most of the game.
The home fans were cheering early when a shot from Yusaku Wasaki nestled into the back of the net when going off the post after just four minutes. The play switched from end-to-end with Alex Steinwascher levelling when heading home powerfully in the 18th minute. Just before the break Bays reclaimed the lead from a freekick, with a shot from Zac Bryant turned into the net by a Coastal defender. On the hour mark, Weston Bell scored from wide out to lock the scores up. Coastal keeper, Adam Highfield, blocked a shot in the closing minutes of normal time to keep the scores level. Extra time saw Coastal make the most of their chances with Ryan Stanley heading home from a freekick to put Coastal into the lead for the first time in the 96th minute. Two goals in the space of a few minutes, both scored by Api Rabuka, late in the final period of extra time but Bays pulled a goal back immediately via Trey Stewart in the 120th minute of play. The win maintained Coastal season-long unbeaten run while claiming the MacFarlane Cup as the last Canterbury side left in the cup.
Coastal will be joined by Otago University, who play in the Southern Premiership, as the only other South Island side going into the quarter-final draw after they caused the upset when knocking out Southern League side, Dunedin City Royals 3 - 2 with all the goals coming in the opening half. University took the lead when Finley Husheer opened the scoring with the Royals replying via Hugh Jack at 20 minutes. Minutes later the students were back in front when Ashton Hodson scored with Ben Campbell then doubling the lead on the half-hour. In the first minute of added time, Jed Collings reduced the margin to a single goal. Onto the second half the Royals battled hard but could not find a goal to send the game into extra time with Otago University reaching their second quarter-final in the cup in four years.

Royals Edge Technical In Quarter Finals
In a game that featured strong winds meant most of the play was at one end of Tuhuna Park, Dunedin City Royals moved into the semifinal stages of the Kate Sheppard Cup when edging Cashmere Technical 1 - 0. Both sides went into the game on season-long winning runs. Technical had the advantage of the wind in the first half, but despite going close on several occasions they could not break down the Royals defence, who had not conceded a goal all season. The best chance fell to Lily Fisher in added time, from an Anna McPhie corner which Royals keeper, Lauren Paterson pushed out to Fisher but the ball would not drop enough with the shot going over the bar. Early in the second half Emma Kench, who had been subbed on at the break, pushed a shot just wide of the post. The Royals used the width to good effect in the closing stages, to create several chances and from a corner in the 88th minute the hard-working, Shontelle Smith scored directly from a corner.

Dunedin City Royals 1 (Shontelle Smith)
