Hunting Colloquialism


“All On”

Historically a pack is known as “All On” when every hound comprising it is present. Upon leaving a covert, and at the end of the days sport, a whipper in will count hounds and call “All On” to the Huntsman, once they are confident each and every hound is accounted for.

 

"Whipper-In"

The role given to those who are helping the Huntsman with the Hounds. Generally senior members of the hunt, who have the knowledge, expertise and experience of the country, landowners and riding skills. The Whipper-In's generally exemplifies the traditions, behaviour & attidude of the hunting sport. It is a priviilage to be asked to be a 'Whipper-In' for a hunt and should not be taken for granted. When a 'Whip' is on the job, it is expected that you navigate out of their way or give away in gateways or spar's to enable them to do there job.

 

"Spars"

Lowed prepared 'spars' in existing permanent fences across the country which we hunt over. Different landowners prefer different setup's but generally these will consist of lowered wire with the batterns also lowered, lowered wire with a wooden top rail on it, they can also consist of alkathene covering wire on 2 wire electric fences, or logs embeded into the fence line.
