2025 Presidents Report
Senior Rugby
2025 saw our senior teams take the field in our new jerseys, based on the original colours of the club. Our U21’s and Senior B’s sides will transition into the new jerseys for the 2026 season. The new strip was well received by players, supporters, and other clubs in the union.
We fielded seven senior teams this year, one down from 2024, with only one U21 side in 2025.
Our on-field results were very consistent, with the U21s, U85s, and MK Rangers all contesting Finals and the Premier 1 and Premier 2 playing semi-finals. These results placed us second to North Shore as the most successful club.
Once again, we had many Massey players involved in North Harbour representative teams across all grades. These players have all been recognised at our annual awards evening.
Congratulations to Wallace Sititi on his inclusion in the All Blacks and Mark Tele’a for his service to Massey, North Harbour, Blues and All Blacks. We wish you well in Japan.
Junior Rugby
Junior rugby once again remained strong with 32 teams taking the field on Saturday mornings. There is an increase of girls taking up the game through the inclusion of Rip Rugby and a girl’s only U13 tackle side mixing it with Auckland teams. Our aim is to keep growing the numbers in junior rugby and hopefully break into the 400’s of registered players in 2026.
2026 is an exciting time for Junior Rugby at Massey as we will see all our teams playing in the new jerseys. This is a massive undertaking involving the purchase of over 500 jerseys. We have managed to cover the cost through grants, fundraising and sponsorship.
Thank you to all involved in the Junior Management
Club
With funding received in November 2024 we completed some major works over the early part of 2025. Our office has been totally revamped and now operates as our board room. The new ranch slider was added into Capones Bar; all the windows and doors were replaced in the changing rooms along with a total repaint of the changing rooms and tunnel.
There will see a new digital scoreboard installed prior to the 2026 season to replace our current one.
Our committee has been working hard behind the scenes making sure we remain viable for the years to come. We are currently working through our strategic plan for the next five years with Shelly Silvia Consulting along with reviewing our branding and marketing with Husk.
We have changed our accountants to Chapmans Charted Accounts in Northwest and changed our accounting package from MYOB to Zero. Chapmans are local ZERO specialists and offer great support which we have struggled with in recent years.
Due to the changes of the Incorporated Societies Act we have had to re write the Clubs constitution to bring it up to date with the act by April 2026. This has been made easier by a NZRU template for use of all rugby clubs.
We should have this completed and circulated by the end of November and will call a Special General Meeting in February to have in put in place.
The kitchen contract was put out for tender and we are pleased to say as from January 2026 it will be under new management. They will be bringing a whole new menu to the table including bar snacks and a comprehensive catering menu for events.
Thanks to Danni and her team for their service over the last few years.
Finance
We managed to operate with a surplus in 2024/2025. With great support from our sponsors, an improved bar turnover, hall hire, subscriptions, and grants received this enabled us to achieve a solid income to run our rugby programmes and meet all our financial obligations.
We are working on making sure that Massey RFC is in a good financial state in the next 10, 20, 30 years and beyond. We have set up an investment portfolio with some of the funds raised through our annual Old Boys Luncheon over the last few years. We aim to add to this annually by way of a small levy built into our subscriptions and some annual funding by way of the Old Boys Luncheon. We aim to keep the capital invested and use the annual return to help run the club.
We are also looking at setting up a completely standalone Legacy Fund. This would be funded from outside of the club and the club would be the only benefactor of the returns. This is reasonably complex to get off the ground and we thank David Clarkson for heading up this project.
Sponsorship / Thankyou
Once again thank you to all our loyal sponsors. We would not survive without you. Our faithful whom have been on board for years, Harcourts Northwest, Easy Moves, Code, Clarkson’s, Aqua Dynamics and Magnum Filters to our more recent ones, ECB Engineering, Metal Pro, and TEXAS Chicken.
Thank you to all our coaches, managers, players, volunteers, staff and especially to our hard-working Committee who work behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly. I welcome you back on board for 2026
