Marlborough Boys' College has a proud history of rugby success, competing with schools across the South Island from Invercargill to Nelson. Rugby is one of the biggest winter sporting codes at MBC with the 1st XV Rugby side being a flagship team at the school.
In conjunction with the Marlborough Boys College Rugby Club, MBC fields 6 rugby teams who compete in the local Tasman RFU club competitions, while the 1st XV plays in the Crusaders region Miles Toyota 1st XV competition, and the South Island Boys Schools Network competition.
The school also fields a 2nd XV and U15 team for traditional fixtures against St Thomas, St Bedes', Shirley Boys and Nelson College. The U15 team also plays in an eight-team South Island-wide competition during Winter Tournament week.
In addition, the 1st XV, 2nd XV and U15 teams all compete in our traditional fixtures against St Thomas, St Bedes', Shirley Boys and Nelson College. The annual 1st XV match with Nelson College is the biggest rugby fixture in the calendar, which in recent years, has drawn nationwide interest.
Mouthguards are compulsory for training and games. Trainings are usually held on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, and games are predominantly in the 2nd & 3rd term.
