New Signing | Sham Chetty

Melville United is pleased to welcome defender Sham Sataiya Chetty to the men's first team for the upcoming Northern League season.

The Tauranga-born 25-year-old arrives with genuine international pedigree, having spent the past two seasons in Portugal.

Most recently with NEGE in 2025/26, where he made 12 appearances and chipped in with a goal and an assist from the backline. Before that he featured for ADCF Santo André and Marinhense B, adding to earlier stints with Franklin United, Manukau City, Tauranga City United, and cross town rivals Hamilton Wanderers here in New Zealand.

A New Zealand-Fiji dual national, Sham is comfortable on either side of defence and can fill in as a defensive midfielder. He is a two-footed, tactically versatile defender who contributes at both ends of the pitch.

Men's first team co-coach Aaron Scott is enthusiastic about what the new signing brings to the squad.

"Sham brings enthusiasm, a great attitude and real endeavour to our right-hand side. He's comfortable at right back, left back and in the wide defensive roles — versatility is a big part of what he offers us," said Scott.

"Whilst opportunities may be limited with the squad performing well, Sham's keenness and commitment will definitely catch the eye for those following the club."
