ABOUT THE CLUB....

Established in 1948 this special boating club has a rich history, both locally and internationally.

Mercury Bay Boating Club was first established to bring together the many sailors who loved to sail a variety of dinghys in the Whitianga Harbour.

In 1988 Mercury Bay Boating Club was the first New Zealand club to challenge for the America's Cup.  KZ1 eventually won the America's Cup (after a court case!) and the Mercury Bay Boat Club got its name engraved on the Auld Mug. The court decision was ultimately reversed by a higher court with USA1 declared as winner.  At this time, the MMBC was being run out of a 1955 Ford Zephyr which was considered the 'Club'.

Today the club has a growing Centreboard Fleet, a popular Learn to Sail programme (for all ages), a good fleet of Multi Hulls and a packed calendar for Keeler racing.

Located on the beautiful Buffalo Beach beachfront, this popular club is a great place for regular sailor's functions, and is also available to hire as a venue for special events.
