INTERCLUB EVENTS

These half day competitions for 7–15 yr olds are held around the Wellington region during the athletics season. They offer running, jumping and throwing events and provide an opportunity for the children to compete against others from different clubs.

Points are awarded for placings in events and, at the end of the season, trophies are awarded to those with the most points in each age group. There is also a cup awarded to the club with the most interclub points.

WELLINGTON CHILDRENS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Wellington Championships are the premier regional athletic event held in March each year. They are held over two to three consecutive Sundays at Newtown Park. Entries are made through the club Secretary in February. Events are open to all registered athletes aged between 7-15 years.

COLGATE GAMES

The Colgate Children’s Athletic championships are held, over 3 days, at a different location in the North and South Island in January each year. Events are open to all children aged between 7-14 years. The 2017 North Island event is being hosted in Hastings on 6th to 8th of January.

INTERPROVINCIALS

Athletics aged 12 – 18 yrs have the opportunity to be selected to represent the Wellington region in an annual Interprovincial event. The 12/13 years event is held over Easter and the 14/15 years and up event is held in January each year.

To be eligible for selection, athletes must attend a minimum of 1 interclub and 1 day of the Wellington Championships. Wellington Centre is also asking grade 12 and 13 athletes to signal their availability for the interprovincials early in the season, and inviting them to be part of an interprovincial training squad.

The correct club uniform and age flash must be worn at the above events.

In addition to these events just for junior athletes, the Wellington Centre holds open programme events (Black and Gold Programme events) most Saturdays. Competitive junior athletes aged 12 and up are able to take part in these events for additional competition.
