RIBBON DAY PROGRAMME for 2024-25
Ribbon Days provide open competition to all athletes in grades up to and including Grade 14. There are no entry fees to attend a ribbon day. All events are run in divisions, with no finals. Please note that if a Ribbon Day is washed out on the Saturday, it may be run on the Sunday. Start time is 10.00 am.
A small programme is run for Under 7’s which normally consist of 3-4 sprint races. Races and field event competitions are for ages 7 and above. The under 5’s are not required to wear a club uniform. 7+ are required to wear club singlet, age flash and black shorts.
The days are very well organised with each event run by parents from the home club as well as other clubs. Morrinsville club may be required to help run some events at Ribbon days. Often it may only be raking the long jump pit or helping with measuring/recording discus/shotput. Morrinsville club has a gazebo to take, which gives shelter and a meeting place for all Morrinsville athletes.
On the day, announcements are made over loud speaker calling age groups to events. Children only enter events they wish to, whether it be one or all of them. Usually all participants attain at least 1 ribbon by the end of the day so they all go home feeling successful. You are not required to stay all day and are able to leave at any time. Often sprint relays are run at the end of the day. If the club doesn’t have the numbers to make up a team you can make up teams from several clubs. It’s all about giving the children a chance to participate.
Ribbon days are a good family day out. The children make friends from other clubs and meet up at different ribbon days. They get the opportunity to compete and measure their ability against others.
