Year 5-6 futureFERNS

The 6v6 game is fast and fun.  Players are all actively involved during the game.  6v6 netball provides players with plenty of turns to practice landing, passing and decision making, enhancing skill development and enjoyment.   With only three positions on court coaches are able to focus more on fundamental skills and provide players with equal opportunities to develop as balanced players who are experienced in attack, defence and mid court.

At our Centre Year 5-6 netball is played on Monday afternoons in the main winter season.  Games are outside at the Taita Courts, but teams also take turns to play inside the Walter Nash Centre.  The round times are usually 4.00, 4.45, and 5.30pm (grading days are a little different).

Schools enter teams, and we usually have around 60 teams entered.

Team registrations are done through Sporty, please use your school sporty login information to enter your teams. If you need support please feel free to contact us.

There is no individual registration option, however if your school does not have a team then please get in touch as there may be another school who are a few players short.

Team Fee

Each team entered needs a coach who has attended our free Year 5-6 Star coach workshop.  The workshop is specific to the Year 5-6 age group.  We keep a list of previous attendees, you only need to attend the workshop once. Please click on the ANZfutureFerns Coach Workshop registration button.

Each team needs to provide their own umpire.  Find out more about umpiring at our Centre HERE.  For this age group, coaches may umpire for their team as long as they don't coach during the playing quarters.  If a coach is going to umpire it helps if they have a manager or co-coach to look after the players on game day.  Whistles are sold at our office.

  • Warm up (before the start time) 6v6 NetballSmart warmup available at right of page (or below on a mobile).
  • Game of 6v6 Netball played on a full court - see Year 5-6 6v6 Game Information brochure (below or at right).  Games are 4 x 8 minute quarters at our Centre.  Coaches complete a pink match card after the game.
  • Cool down

Most teams choose to have a practice at school.  After the coach workshop, coaches will receive access to an online resource that will set them up for the season.

School uniforms should be worn, for outdoor games thermals and leggings in the schools registered colour may be worn underneath.

This age group use size 4 balls, A A C C D D bibs, and a 2.6m goal post.   You need to bring balls, bibs and a small first aid kit with plasters.

We have some futureFERNS bibs for sale at a reduced price, contact us if you wish to place an order.

Please refer to the Grading Guidelines  (available at the right/end of this page) when entering your team.   Teams will play two weeks of grading games, and then be re-graded into a round one grade.  Teams are re-graded again at the end of round one based on the feedback from the pink match card evaluations.

Any postponements will be announced by 2pm on our facebook page and then followed up with an email to team contacts.   There is a rain day booked for each playing round to catch up on any games missed.

Please try to avoid a default.  Late defaults and further defaults will incur a fee as it is really unfair on the opposition to miss out on a game.  Please consider the impact of defaulting before you take this step.  To avoid a default, we can register additional players for your team at no charge, or you can take the court with five players.  The other team may be happy to loan you players so their kids don't miss out on a game. Please get in touch to talk through your options before defaulting.
