Selwyn Sports Trust recently celebrated their 9th annual Koru Games festival. The 2023 event lived up to all expectations with new friendships, players and enjoyment being made across the 468 teams and 79 schools that participated over the three days of the September competition.  

Selwyn Netball Centre hosted 32 open and 12 mixed social netball teams to their courts from all around the South Island. All games were played in the spirit of ‘Fair Play’ and to mark this, all players were to shake hands before and after each game. With alignments to advocate for the ‘Balance is Better’ philosophy, all players involved played a minimum of 50% of game time during the tournament. To further enhance player welfare, the netball competition format changed from previous years to 10-minute halves, which allowed for allocated time for teams to complete the NetballSmart Power Warm-up before each round.  

The Netball Mainland team attended Day One to embrace the opening ceremony and watch our tamariki enjoy playing netball in the sun. Congratulations and well done to all the Mainland Centre's who supported schools, teams or players participating at the 2023 event.
