Malvern Netball Centre written by Kiana Gallon

NetballSmart had the privilege of supporting Malvern Netball Centre’s year 9-13 players trial evening on the 21st of March. We utilised this opportunity to provide a NS SmartPlayer session, which educates players on the importance of ensuring there is a holistic awareness and approach to a player’s health, wellbeing and hauora.

The NetballSmart philosophy prides itself in being the healthy heart of Netball. At the beginning of the season, it is a great time to get players to think about what they want to get out of this year. Prioritising personalised 2024 SMART goals, and how they can relate them back to their own netball journey. The Malvern netball players reflected on the bigger picture and wrote individual ambitions (netball specific or not), and how having an above the line attitude could support achieving them. They gained an understanding to the concept of load management, how planning trainings and competition can maximise adaption to loading and improving performance whilst minimising injury risk. While also encouraging sporting diversification to improve performance, through varied movement competencies and skill development.

Players then jumped straight into trials, where they completed the NSDWU before game play. We wish Malvern Netball Centre an energetic season!
